* Evaporative Cooler Needed for the Church *

Many St. Paul folks are having a hard time attending church during the summer months because of the extreme heat in the sanctuary. So we are trying to get the least expensive yet effective evaporative cooler installed in the sanctuary area. But we really need special donations to do this. If this is important to you, please give us a generous donation for the COOLER. And also, please remember to donate to the ongoing expenses of the church during the summer months, as we can only move forward and be the church with your support.

Thanks,

Toni

Sacred Activism Book Group

Please join us in a discussion of Dimitri Orlov’s Reinventing Collapse (New Society Publishers, 2008).

In case you can't get the book, read Orlov's funny but insightful essay "Closing the Collapse Gap: the USSR was better prepared for collapse than the US" which you can find on the web at: http://www.energybulletin.net/node/23259.

The book Reinventing Collapse is more "serious" than the essay but is still pretty interesting and sometimes hysterically funny. We thought this would be good to study because it gives us insight into what we should be preparing for as the environment and the economy decline, and oil supplies are less and less available - regardless if there's a collapse as dramatic as Orlov predicts - and it's in line with Andrew Harvey's view of how bad off we really are.

If you have any questions, please email Keith at keith@compassionatespirit.com.

The Interfaith Alliance of Colorado - Interfaith Dialogue Series

An Evening of Interfaith Exploration and Dialogue
People of all faith traditions are invited to join The Interfaith Alliance for an event at St. Paul.

As a society, we are facing many time-sensitive and often gut-wrenching issues – calling for our best attentions and insights. Through dialogue, we are invited into a process where we seek to profoundly understand each other – to listen deeply; to establish true respect; to suspend judgment; and, to speak from our authentic voice. To this hope, the practice of dialogue emerges as a "container" to disarm and begin to "think together".

The goal of the evening is three-fold:
• To engage the senses with some of the sights, sounds and tastes from the host tradition;
• To create a time of learning and sharing about a facet of the spirit of the host tradition as well as the practice of dialogue; and,
• To provide an opportunity for mutually respectful, deep listening and dialogue using a theme that relates to current faith and life.

SPIRIT

Given many of us have good intentions but hectic schedules and bad habits, spiritual practices (whatever they might be) are often a challenge to do. What about doing some of our practices together? We can look at everything from emailing or calling to share our practice "virtually," to meeting for meditation - perhaps in various "sanctuaries" around town - to walks or Tai Chi in the Botanic Gardens. We might even look at a movement called "non-cloistered monasticism" for those of us ready to take a more committed plunge (traditional religious beliefs NOT a requirement!). Given our creativity, we'll surely come up with some wonderful ideas! Please email Lisa at lisanzac7@msn.com if you have any suggestions and/or you're interested in doing this.
